Google Announces Android and the Open Handset Alliance
Posted by Bradley under News, Technology
No, it’s not the Gphone… it’s Android, an open mobile operating system for cell phones. Coming in the second half of 2008 30 technology companies together with Google will release a free cell phone operating system and hardware to support it. If Google wins the FTC’s 700MHz spectrum auction in February this could be the downfall of traditional cell phone providers and a fundamental shift for the cellular industry.
Goooooooooogle.

P.S. - I write this as the announcement is happening, this was just revealed… “contrary to a lot of the speculation out there, you won’t see a completely ad-driven cellphone based on this platform.”
